Denman Brush (7 Rows) – My New Styling Essential For Curly Hair

But I thought you shouldn’t brush curly hair!!

Yes, you shouldn’t – You shouldn’t brush them when they’re dry. And definitely not with a regular brush!

I recently bought a Denman brush after I saw Liz loving the results. I had noticed this styling essential for many naturally curly Youtubers but did not imagine it would be available in India.

How I style my curls using a @denmanbrush! Products used- @asiamnaturally leave in & @cantubeauty curl activator cream. Plopped with tshirt and diffuser on low heat! #CurlRoutine

Step 1: On wet hair, smooth the leave in conditioner in a praying motion
Step 2: Rake it in with your fingers
Step 3: Smooth down a styling product ( I’ve used cantu curl activator but you can also use any gel)
Step 4: Take sections & brush starting from bottom of your curls to prevent snags & breakage
Step 5: Shake the sections & watch your curl pattern appear
Step 6: Scrunch using a Tshirt & air dry/diffuse

After buying it & using it for the last month and plus – I can officially say I cannot go back to my comb because of how fantastic my wash & go’s have become!

I had always preferred combing my curls after conditioner & leave in conditioner instead of STC (Squish to Condish) because it distributes the products evenly, removes knots & helps to form several individual curl clumps instead of few thick ones.

But even combing has not given me the shine & definition a Denman brush has!

My curls are super defined & remain knot free longer -this is important because the longer my curls get, more prone they are to frizz & tangles.

It is important to remember that this brush might not suit you if your wavy/curly hair texture (2b/2c/3a) likes STC more. Since it helps in creating thinner curl clumps – loose textures might not get the same definition.

Since I am a 3A 3B curly hair that is quite thin in density & quantity – this technique results in several curl clumps making it look more voluminous & thick.

Important tip:

The rows are customisable. So if you use & love the brush but want thicker clumps, you can always remove a few rows & try styling again. Look up videos on Youtube to see how to remove the rows.

I tried to use only 3 rows after removing 4 but found it didn’t suit me. It’s all trial and error- you’ll need to find out how many rows of the bristles is perfect for your hair.
