Hey you! Been a while right? I got busy with work, travelling to Jaipur and needed some time to regroup my energy. 🙂 I was also testing 3 products from the Innersense Beauty Hair Care Line on my curls – their Sweet Spirit Leave in Conditioner, Quiet Calm Curl Control and I Create Hold Gel. (I’ve also got their dry shampoo, can’t wait to try it out!)
Let’s face it- it’s a time when more and more people are opting for products that are ‘safe’ & natural to use. And I don’t just mean CG Friendly or only textured hair. We all want products that are not toxic, are ethically manufactured, doesn’t harm animals, are organic, vegan, doesn’t cause hair loss- I could go on. Many of you have children and are extra careful in what you buy for them. But as these requirements increase, the number of ‘Green Beauty’ products available in our country decreases.
It isn’t easy to create products on mass scale that work as well without toxic chemicals and preservatives, which is why the ones that do are priced higher- please understand that as you continue to read. I’ll always be a fan of pocket-friendly products and advocate for finding the best in your budget, while fully admitting that you do pay for high quality when you invest in products.
In the end, it’s all priorities. Don’t let anyone shame you for being a product junkie or finding the best product in your budget so you can afford to do more things in life.
Now, those of you who already follow me on Instagram must have seen videos of how my hair looked after I used the Innersense products- incredibly lush and defined with a strong shine. I waited this long because I wanted to try them extensively with different product combinations before I put out my final review.
So let’s begin!

Notes on Ingredients-Â
- It’s CG Friendly which means it doesn’t have any bad sulphates, silicones, drying alchols, ,mineral oils and more. You can read more about CG Method in my blog post.
- This has proteins– Rice Amino Acids and Hydrolyzed Rice Protein. For those of you who love the Rice Water treatment, these amino acid helps your hair to bind better with water and brings more shine & volume.
- Since the protein isn’t in the first 5 ingredients, don’t be worried, it means there is a small amount of it so it should not harm you even if you have low porosity hair. It will actually bring some body to your hair. It’s all a matter of balance anyway! More on this in another post.
- It has glycerine which is wonderful to attract moisture, as long as you aren’t staying in an extremely humid and dry environment.
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Gel has been used since centuries to heal the skin and scalp, condition hair and add shine. The gel is also made of 96% water so it’s amazing for dry curly hair!
- Lotus Flower Essential Oil, Citrus Peel oils help to relax and soothe insomnia and nervousness. Think zen.

- It’s chock full of extracts from plants and flowers to aid hair growth and scalp health.
- Rooibos, also known as ‘Miracle Tea’, has calcium, copper, potassium and zinc strengthens hair at the root, prevents pre-mature greying and boost healthy hair growth.
Amazing line-up of ingredients, no? Let’s see how you should apply it though.
How to Use Innersense Sweet Spirit Leave in Conditioner–
- To Detangle– After shampoooing & conditioning, when hair is still wet or damp, spray generously on your hair. Comb through. Use a detangling brush or wet brush if there are extra tangles.
- To Refresh– On day 2, 3 hair in the morning to refresh. Spritz on all the areas, especially the crown and smooth on some with your fingers. Watch the frizz soften down.
- For Hairstyles– Use it to gently manipulate hair for a hair style. When you don’t want to wash your hair but try a new style, apply this on your hair and then comb. Tie it into braids or make a super slick bun!
- On Young Kids– This is great for any of you with daughters for whom you need to comb into plaits for school everyday. No need to wash the hair but spray and style!
- On the ends of any hair type. Spray, spritz and keep them split ends away
Pros-
- Cg Friendly
- No toxic chemicals & Parabens
- Made from organic ingredients
- Cruelty Free
- Clean scent
- Detangles hair & melts tiny knots incredibly well.
- Very safe to use on children
- Lightweight so no limp waves and curls!
- Great for straight hair that gets frizzy.
- Moisturizes wavy and loose curly hair (Type 2 to 3A) incredibly well
- Great to refresh your hair on day 2,3 (Learn how to refresh here)
- Great for growing hair longer (straight, wavy or curly) by protecting it from friction and split ends.
Cons-
- I’ve got nothing. It does what it says – detangles hair with lightweight moisture! For some the price is a con but you are paying for a high-quality, #greenbeauty product. If you really want to invest in your hair, are facing hair fall or poor results with cheaper products – time to upgrade!
Best For-
- People with wavy hair (2A,2B,2C) who want definition and volume without hair falling flat. This is a one and done product for loose waves!
- Those with loose curls (3A) who need to moisturise their hair lightly and get it ready to style with a small amount of cream or/and gel.
- People with straight hair which still gets frizzy
- Young girls/ children whose hair needs to be combed every morning and cry when you run a comb through their knotty, tangled hair! Getting ready for school becomes so much easier to deal with!
- Anyone with coloured hair that gets rough and tangled easily.
Innersense QUIET CALM CURL CONTROL Review
What is it– A styling lotion to boost and define curls. This is a curl cream meant to give definition to your hair. This can be used alone or after the leave in spray or your other leave in conditioner.
Description– Hydrate and define curls, eliminate frizz and smooth textured hair with this styling cream crafted with a perfect blend of Certified Organic shea butter, rooibos tea and honey extract. A bouquet of Certified Organic orange flower oil and frangipani creates a sense of peace and balance. Works well with all hair types.

Innersense QUIET CALM CURL CONTROL Ingredients-
Water, Aqua- EAU (Aqualeau), Glycerin1, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride2, Stearyl Alcohol1, Cetyl Alcohol1, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)*2, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Oil, Glyceryl Stearate1, Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract***, Nelumbium Speciosum (Lotus) Flower Oil***, Citrus Sinensis Peal Oil*6, Caprylic Triglyceride*6, Sorbitol3, Cetrimonium Chloride Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Flower Oil*, Aspalathus Linearis Extract*4, Echinacea Angustifolia Extract**5, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil*, Plumeria Alba (Frangipani) Flower Extract, Cymbopogon Agropyron (Wheatgrass) Extract*, Schoenanthus (Lemongrass) Extract*, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate
* Certified Organic Plant Source- 1 Coconut, 2 Shea Butter, 3 Sugarcane, 4 Rooibos (Red Bush) Tea, 5 Echinacea, 6 Citrus Peel Oil
- It is CG Friendly. No silicones, drying alcohols whatsoever.
- Sheabutter helps soften natural hair.
- It has glycerine and sorbitol which are humectants. They’re great for moisturising dry, damaged or coloured curly hair but be careful in very hot, dry or humid areas.
- It is protein free!
- Rice Bran Oil is a rich, carrier oil and helps to protect and nourish hair. It’s also high in anti oxidants which help fight environmental damage.
- Avena Sativa (Oat) Kernel Extract is a skin soothing, plant extract. Great for treating an irritated scalp. This is not a protein but an emollient!
- It has many nourishing plant extracts and oils – making it a rich cream for styling but without the heaviness you usually get from hair butters.
- After shampooing conditioning your hair, rinsing it out – you can either apply a leave in first or skip straight to this curl cream. Thicker hair types find they get better results with both but this can definitely be used alone too.
- Apply the cream to each section of your hair with praying method and you can then with Rake it in/Comb to distribute the product or simply scrunch up to avoid breaking the curl clumps.
- Plop for 5-10 mins and then air dry or diffuse! (I prefer diffusing)
- On day 2, 3, you can use a small amount of the cream to refresh your hair if a lighter leave in does not reduce the frizz. I find I prefer this cream on wash day instead of refreshing my curls.
- It is incredibly moisturising. I get really fat clumps whenever I use this cream.
- CG Friendly, organic ingredients, paraben free!
- Cruelty Free
- You need a small amount for each section, especially if you have applied a good leave in as a base. I find more leave in and less cream gives me definition without compromising on volume.
- You also need to remember that since it’s made with such good ingredients, a little goes a long way.
- I can’t describe how it smells but there is no strong, overpowering, lingering scent. Hair smells clean and mellow, if you get what I mean 😛
- It’s a big bottle!
- It is easy to overdo this cream since it has shea butter and rich oils – use a smaller amount if you find your hair feels limp.
- I don’t like using this to refresh my curls on day 2,3 as much as I like using it on wash day. The spray suits me better then.
- Anyone with thick wavy or curly hair- Type 2C onwards.
- Those who want more definition without the crunchy hold of a gel
- Won’t suggest it for very light waves or very fine hair.
- However, even if you don’t use it to style, you can also use to SOTC (Scrunch Out The Crunch) any gel cast!
Innersense I CREATE HOLD Review
What is it- A styling gel. A gel creates a cast around your wet curls that you gently scrunch out later when it dries. This makes your curl’s definition last longer and protects it from frizz. Great for humid environments. It also gives great shine.
Description– Achieve sustainable shape from roots to ends with this styling gel formulated with Certified Organic honey that acts as a natural resin, and rooibos tea for antioxidant rejuvenation. Nettle and rosemary extracts combine to add incredible shine and powerful hold. Best for medium to thick hair textures.
Details-

Innersense I CREATE HOLD Ingredients-
Water, Aqua- EAU, Organic Aloe Barbadensis Gel*, Organic Glycerin*, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Maltodextrin Copolymer**, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Water*, Organic Rooibos African Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract2*, Organic Honey Extract3*, Rice Amino Acids4, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein4*, Organic Urtica Dioica (Nettle) Extract6*, Organic Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract5, Organic Equisetum Arvense (Horsetail) Extract*, Xanthan Gum, Potassium Sorbate**, Sodium Benzoate**
*Certified Organic **Plant Derived Plant Source: 1 Aloe, 2 Rooibos, 3 Honey, 4 Rice, 5 Nettle, 6 Rosemary
Notes on Ingredients-
- Cg Friendly, Organic Ingredients!
- Hydroxyethylcellulose is a thickener – also found in Loreal Smooth Intense if you remember it’s ingredients.
- It has proteins – Rice Amino Acids, Hydrolyzed Rice Protein which helps balance the moisture that the cream gives.
- Like all their other products, it’s rich with plant extracts that help nourish the hair.
- Maltodextrin Copolymer, Xanthan Gum give hold.
How to Use-
Out of all the 3 products, this was the hardest to figure out. Sometimes the gel gave me okay bleh results and some times spectacular. Thankfully, Alyson helped me out – she said the trick is to emulsify the gel in your palms (on wet palms, take some gel and rub your palms together) and in her video too, I saw that you don’t need to use a lot of this stuff to get defined curls!
- After your leave in conditioner, curl cream, a gel is the last step.
- Smooth it on your hair with praying method and scrunch up.
- I don’t recommend combing after this gel as that gives me frizz.
- Air dry or for more volume, diffuse your hair. (Recommended)
- Another thing for me personally is, this gel works for me on wet hair, not damp hair.
- If you find your hair has gotten damp after your shower, spray your hair with some water or their own leave in spray and then apply the gel.
- It gives me medium – hard hold as long as I don’t apply it on damp hair.
- Makes my curls so shinyyyyy!
- The consistency is something else, almost resiny- which is why its important to emulsify it in your palms before applying.
- Cg Friendly, Organic ingredients!
- Cruelty Free
- My curls last 3-4 days easily in great shape when I use this gel.
- It works really well with Cantu Curl Activator and Mielle Organics Pomegrenate and honey leave in conditioner too.
- It’s potent, so it’s easy to overdo the stuff and get slightly weighed down hair. Remember, test different amounts and methods before you give up on any product!
- This is not like Arata Hair gel or Ecostyler, it is thicker and doesn’t glide like slimy DIY FSG so this is definitely for people who want more hold.
- Anyone who wants to make their wavy or curly definition last longer.
- If you like doing the Smasters Method.
- People who still find frizz with lighter gels.

Reader Testimonials
“So I have been a hard core Shea Moisture fan, after seeing your post i tried Innersense. It’s amazing. I love their gel the most. Gives me super bouncy super shiny hair. So I use the leave in conditioner after wash and then gel, plop it and air dry. When I refresh between washes I slightly damp my hair and use their hair cream and gel. Innersense has no become my go-to products. I have ordered the shampoo and second order of gel.” – @curlysouthindian

atYou mentioned the leave in was best for 2A,B,C curls. How about 3A, 3B though
Pallavi Juneja
atThe leave in spray works really well as a one and done product for type 2. For type 3, like I have, you do need to use a thicker curl cream on top of the spray!

atI really need to thank you. Your site introduced me to the Arata Cream and Gel which have totally transformed my hair. My wavy hair really seems to like light hold products which sink into the hair instead of sitting on top, which I experienced with the Schwarzkopf Taft gel. Ever since I saw Alyson use these products, I’ve been eyeing them, but the price tag and my status as a student make me hesitate.
On another hand, I’ve observed that one side of my hair looks really good, waves really well, while the other side has chunks that simply don’t clump together or curl up, instead staying limp and strange. How do I rectify this? I generally STC in the shower and use the same method to apply products with my hair flipped over. Should I try to apply products upright?
