Best Indian Wavy & Curly Hair Care Brands

An image of a trolley holding Curly Hair Indian Products

Years ago, I never imagined there would come a day when I would be this spoilt for choice in curly hair Indian products.

I can one day choose from not only one but MANY local, Indian brands for curly hair.

I discovered the world of the Curly Girl Method (*modified) many years back when I was still in college. All I could find then were expensive international products 🙁

Clearly, things have changed, and you, reader, if you are new to the curly world, are SO lucky!

I’m so glad I can make a list (LIST!!!) of curly hair products in India that cater specifically to people like you and me who need products that reduce dryness and frizz.

Several of the products mentioned below are free from sulphates, silicones, drying alcohols, etc. Those that are not CG-Friendly are specified clearly. (Read more about CGM here- What is the CG Method?)

Some of the products have already been reviewed, which I’ve linked so that you can check for detailed pros and cons.

Here we go!

Discover 20+ Curly Hair Indian Products

A note on the selection criteria – these are Indian brands that have products solely for wavy and curly hair, or have a particular line for textured hair within their catalog.

Arata Zero Chemicals

curly hair indian products

Back in 2018, I discovered Arata and tested their hair cream and gel. I loved the results so much that I even shot a YouTube video where I showed how I applied their CG-Friendly cream and gel and what results it gave, and I even included my friend’s results with the products!

It tamed our curls really well and gave us fat, bouncy ringlets. Their cream and gel became one of my holy grail brands.

It didn’t matter that it wasn’t a line made for curly hair specifically; it gave me curls I loved and was free of ingredients I was avoiding.

Arata has since rebranded those products and turned them into their Advanced Curl Care line, which includes a shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner, detangling spray, cream, gel, oil,  and a mask.

This brand is also a fantastic option for men with curly hair, as the scent tends to be more unisex and refreshing.

You can use my code CURIOUSARATA on orders above Rs.999 to get 15% off! Using this code gives me a small commission, which helps me pay my bills and continue blogging.

Ashba Botanics

Indian Brands for Curly Hair

When Asha Barrack, the founder of Indian Curl Pride, and I think India’s first curly hair blogger, created her own line of curly hair Indian products, you bet I was excited.

I particularly enjoy using their shampoo, conditioner, and mask, but they’ve also launched additional stylers, so I can’t tell my favorites yet. Stay tuned for a new review coming soon!

Let’s Curl Up

Curl Up was the first brand to launch a three-step curl routine: shampoo, conditioner, and curl cream.

I tested their products when they launched and even did a YouTube tutorial showing how to apply them to naturally curly hair.

They have recently launched a mask, a gel and an oil that I am currently testing. My favourite out of them is their mask and curl cream, which is thick, rich, and great for thick, curly hair.

  1. Curl Up Curl Moisturising Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 575) (Mild Protein)
You can read more in my review here.
  2. Curl Up Cowash Cleansing Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 690)

  8. Curl Up Nourishing Hair Oil – CG Friendly (Rs. 720)

Fix My Curls

Another fellow curly girl, Anshita, was inspired to make products to suit Indian wavy and curly hair after struggling to find the right ones for her hair.

Fix My Curls launched with a line of two types of shampoos (one works really well as a co-wash!), a deep conditioner, a leave-in-cream, and a gel.

Now they have added many more products, like masks and stylers to suit a wide variety of hair types and requirements (like protein and moisture).

Out of all of them, my favorites at the moment are their hair butter, flaxseed gelly, everyday shampoo, and deep conditioner. My friend, who also has curly hair, loves their hair masks.

  1. Fix my Curls Cleansing Shampoo (Rs. 965) (Protein Free)
  2. Fix my Curls Everyday Moisturising Shampoo (Rs. 970)
  3. Fix my Curls Hydrating Deep Conditioner (Rs. 970)
  4. Fix my Curls Leave in Cream (Rs. 1200)
  5. Fix my Curls Defining Hair Gel (Rs. 800)

True Frog

Indian Brands for Curly Hair

I saw their ad on Instagram one day, which had a green frog giving curly hair tips.

I was intrigued! After looking at their ingredients, and finding them free of ‘nasties’, I ordered them and was genuinely surprised at the results. I recommend this brand to beginners often.

  1. True Frog Shampoo for Curls (Rs. 585)
I trust shampoos where I can be generous with it sometimes and not fear a dry scalp. This is one of those shampoos.
  2. True Frog Everyday Hair Conditioner (Rs. 565) (Mild Protein) (Allergen Free Fragrance)
  3. True Frog Deep Conditioning Hair Mask (Rs. 695) (Mild Protein) (Allergen Free Fragrance)
I recommend this deep conditioner very often to newbies.
  4. True Frog Volumizing Mousse – CG Friendly (Rs. 585)
  5. True Frog Leave-in-Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 625)
  6. True Frog Styling Gel for Curls – CG Friendly (Rs. 595)

Manetain

I know both Hinshara and Yuba, the founders, from my early days of blogging. Again, these are curly girls who wanted to make something local for their community and so launched their brand.

Manetain was recently gotten featured on Shark Tank India. I don’t have the words to describe how proud I felt, seeing them talk about the need for curly hair brands for Indians on a national stage.

  1. Manetain Oh So Cool Co-wash – CG Friendly (Rs. 1570) (Protein Free)
  2. Manetain Store Oh So Soft Moisturising Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 1250)
  3. Manetain Store Oh So Clean Clarifying Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 1350)
This is sulphate so I clarified (I couldn’t resist, haha) with Yuba, one of the co-founders, that the presence of the gentler cleansing ingredients is also enough to remove silicone buildup!
  4. Manetain Multipurpose Hair Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 1670) (Mild Protein)
  5. Manetain Ultimate Moisture Therapy – CG Friendly (Rs. 749, Rs. 1349)
  6. Manetain Ultimate Bond Repair Therapy – CG Friendly (Rs. 799, Rs. 1449)
  7. Manetain Leave-in Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 549)
  8. Manetain Curl Cream – CG Friendly (Rs. 549)
  9. Manetain Volume Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 549)
  10. Manetain Hard Hold Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 549)

Curlvana

If you’re living in a place with high humidity, try this glycerine-free line. Their conditioner is different from the others mentioned on this list, it’s more herbal, for the lack of a better word.

Check out my YouTube video featuring these products to see how to apply, how much to apply, and what my results were!

  1. Curlvana Fortifying Curl Cleanse – CG Friendly (Rs. 599)
  2. Curlvana Deep Nourish Double-Cream Hair Mask – CG Friendly (Rs. 749)
  3. Curlvana Curl Shine Gentle Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 599)
  4. Curlvana Moisture-lock Curl-Styling Leave-in Cream (Rs. 795)
  5. Curlvana Curl-Defining All-in-One Styling Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 699)
  6. Curlvana Zero Frizz Non-Drying Wavy Hair Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 399)
  7. Curlvana Wavy Hair Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 399)
  8. Curlvana Wavy Hair Mousse – CG Friendly (Rs. 499)

North Wish Naturals

I brought their whole set when it launched and took them with me on my travel to test, only to leave them behind by mistake. 🙁 I’ll get them after my current batch of reviews finishes.

  1. Northwish Naturals Nourishing Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 545)
  2. Northwish Naturals Nourishing Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 650)
  3. Northwish Naturals Curl Defining Leave-in Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 590)
  4. Northwish Naturals Curl Defining Custard – CG Friendly (Rs. 590)
  5. Northwish Naturals Bundle – CG Friendly (Rs. 2270)

SugerBoo Curls

  1. Sugerboo Curls Cleansing Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 799)
  2. SugarBoo Curls – Hydrating Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 349)
  3. SugarBoo Curls Leave-In Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 349)
  4. SugarBoo Curls Soft Hold Curl Defining Cream – CG Friendly (Rs 349)
  5. SugarBoo Curls Citrus & Hibiscus Moisture Hold Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 349)
  6. SugarBoo Curls Rejuvenating & Strengthening Hair Mask – CG Friendly (Rs. 674)

Curl Cure

Part of what makes this community so great is that its members rise up to create products we wish existed for us.

Curl Cure, too, was made by a curly girl who’s also a hairstylist. Simran’s salon is also coaching and training salons across the country on how to cut, wash, and style natural hair the right way, which I love to see.

  1. Curl Cure 3-Step Curl Routine  – CG Friendly (Rs. 2399)
  2. Curl Cure 3-Step travel Routine – CG Friendly (Rs. 549)
  3. Curl Cure Gentle Cleansing Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 599)
  4. Curl Cure Intensive Hydrating Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 849)
  5. Curl Cure Define & Shine Curl Cream – CG Friendly (Rs. 899)

All Doer

  1. Alldoer Gentle Clarifying Hair Shampoo –  (Rs. 1099)
It has a water-soluble silicone (PEG 12 dimethicone) and a clarifying cleanser (Sodium lauroyl sarcosinate). Also, it *is* a clarifying shampoo – so it doesn’t have to be CG-friendly; as long as it cleanses the scalp and hair of buildup, it is enough.
  2. Alldoer Conditioner For Curly Hair – CG Friendly (Rs. 1099)
  3. Alldoer Leave-in Conditioner for Curly Hair – Not CG Friendly* (Rs. 1099)
I’m a little confused about the ingredients for this. The brand says it’s a ‘sulfate-free and silicone-free leave-in conditioner’ on the product page, but their ingredient list has Amodimethicone and Trideceth-12 and Cetrimonium Chloride (DC 939), which “Dries down to a cross-linked polymer film for durable effective conditioning, particularly for damaged hair.” Amodimethicone is silicone – so I don’t know how it’s being labeled the opposite. Honestly, if you’re not following CGM strictly, and you clarify now and then, it will be fine.
  4. Alldoer Super Hold Jelly – CG Friendly (Rs. 999)

Moxie Beauty

https://www.instagram.com/p/C0jevsvSmSD/

During the pandemic, Nikita, the founder of Moxie Beauty, contacted me to understand the curly hair market in India.

The questions were detailed, and we deep-dived into what was missing in the space and what Indian people with natural hair were looking for in their go-to products, especially regarding the lack of options for wavy hair or loose curls.

As you can imagine, I became very excited when I saw the variety of products she’d launched for both wavy and curly hair textures.

I’m now testing their products, review to come soon!

  1. Moxie Beauty Gentle Cleansing Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 625)
  2. Moxie Beauty Ultra Hydrating Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 695)
  3. Moxie Beauty Weightless Leave-In Conditioner – CG Friendly (Rs. 625)
  4. Moxie Beauty Super Defining Curl Cream – CG Friendly (Rs. 625)
  5. Moxie Beauty Flexi Styling Serum Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 625)
  6. Moxie Beauty Curly Travel Routine – CG Friendly (Rs. 1180)
  7. Moxie Beauty Curly Routine – CG Friendly (Rs. 2570)
  8. Moxie Beauty Wavy Travel Routine – CG Friendly (Rs. 1180)
  9. Moxie Beauty Wavy Routine – CG Friendly (Rs. 2570)

Truth & Hair

If you’ve been part of the curly hair community in India for some time, you’ll know the founders of this brand, Saumya, and Shailesh, since they also launched Naturally You and Me (now NYNM), India’s first online store that curated natural hair brands from across the world.

Now, with knowledge gained from growing their brand about what customers are looking for, they have launched their own hair care brand, which includes a line for wavy hair, curls, and even straight hair!

I’ve used both their shampoo and conditioner for curly hair a few times already and personally loved the shampoo- its scent, how hydrating it is without having to give up on lather, and how soft my curls feel after. Not to forget the packaging, which makes it travel-friendly.

I still need to test the conditioner on different stages of tangled hair, so will share my opinion on that later. Stay tuned for the review.

  1. Truth & Hair Hydro Nourish Shampoo for Curly Hair – CG Friendly (Rs. 495)
  2. Truth & Hair Hydro Nourish Shampoo for Wavy Hair– CG Friendly (Rs. 495)
  3. Truth & Hair Hydro Nourish Conditioner for Curly Hair – CG Friendly (Rs. 495)
  4. Truth & Hair Hydro Nourish Conditioner for Wavy Hair– CG Friendly (Rs. 495)
  5. Truth & Hair Hydro Nourish Shampoo + Conditioner Set for Curly Hair – CG Friendly (Rs. 990)
  6. Truth & Hair Hydro Nourish Shampoo + Conditioner Set for Wavy Hair– CG Friendly (Rs. 990)

The Curl Co

Another curly hair stylist, Isha (@thealchemicbeauty), has just launched (March 2024) her own brand of curly hair products, which includes a shampoo, conditioner, and a soft-hold curl cream.

All three are in my bathroom for my next hair wash, as I’m writing this. Will update here once I’ve tried them.

  1. Curl Co Cleanse and Hydrate Curl Shampoo –  (Rs. 699)
  2. Curl Co Nourish and Hydrate Curl Conditioner – (Rs. 799)
  3. Curl Co Enhance and Define Softhold Curl Cream – (Rs. 899)
  4. Curl Co Curl Shampoo + Conditioner + Cream Bundle – (Rs. 2397)
  5. Curl Co Curl Shampoo + Curl Conditioner Bundle – (Rs. 1498)
  6. Curl Co Curl Conditioner + Curl Cream Bundle – (Rs. 1698)

Bare Anatomy

While the brand offers different sets for multiple hair concerns, its curly hair set, especially its gel, has a growing group of fans in the community, including me.

The fact that I could order it on Blinkit when I needed a gel urgently is great, too!

  1. Bare Anatomy Curl Defining Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 449)
  2. Bare Anatomy’s Curl-Boosting Cream Leave-In Conditioner – NOT CG Friendly (Rs. 449)
It has isohexadecane, which is a wax and can cause buildup IF you are not using a shampoo with sulphates now and then.
  3. Bare Anatomy Curl Enhancing Hair Mask – NOT CG Friendly (Rs. 595)
Has amodimethicone, which is a silicone. If silicones suit you and don’t weigh down your waves and curls, AND you’re using a sulphate shampoo now and then to remove any buildup, it’s fine to use.
  4. Bare Anatomy Curl Defining Shampoo – CG Friendly (Rs. 499)

Best Life

https://www.instagram.com/p/CltdvsAoDCg/

I’m surprised I haven’t tried their products yet, their line for curly hair is loved by many. I hope to try them soon.

  1. Best Life Argan Nourish 4 Products Bundle Shampoo, Conditioner, Style Cream & Gel – CG Friendly (Rs. 2796)
  2. Best Life Define and Shine Hydrating Style Curly Hair Gel & Cream – CG Friendly (Rs. 1598)

BBlunt

If I have to be technical, BBlunt launched India’s first curly hair set of products way back in 2014. Unfortunately, it wasn’t well known then, and it also contains sulphates and silicones that I tend to avoid back then.

The products are decent, however, in terms of performance and price point. They’ve updated the line and added stylers.

  1. BBLUNT Curly Hair Moisturizing Shampoo – Not CG Friendly (Rs. 399)
  2. BBLUNT Curly Hair Moisturizing Conditioner – Not CG Friendly (Rs. 399)
  3. BBlunt Curl Defining Hydra Mist Serum – Not CG Friendly (Rs. 399)

Dove Beautiful Curls

Dove launched a line in India for curly hair, which is nice to see. To announce its launch, they did several paid collaborations with influencers and bloggers.

To my surprise, many influencers (especially from the fashion and beauty niche) made reels with their products, where the final result clearly looks like they’ve used a curling iron.

Dove then ran some of those reels as ads, which can make impressionable beginners think they will also get such results if they use it on their hair.

Ironically, the natural hair movement is being capitalized on to sell more to curly hair people but the results shown are obviously not natural curls.

But I do note that, as a result of a mainstream brand like Dove launching a curly hair care line, more people in India will easily access products meant for their hair at affordable rates through neighborhood department stores as well.

  1. Dove Beautiful Curls Sulphate Free Shampoo – NOT CG Friendly (Rs. 499)
    Has silicone but no sulphates.
  2. Dove Beautiful Curls Detangling Conditioner – NOT CG Friendly (Rs. 599)
It has dimethicone, which is a silicone. Use this if your hair likes silicones (which means it softens dry hair without leaving it feeling weighed down), and use a clarifying (read-sulphate) shampoo now and then to remove build-up.
  3. Dove Beautiful Curls Deep Moisture Miracle Hair Mask – Can’t Say* (Rs. 599)
I have not been able to find the ingredient list for this mask. I’ll update this when I do.
  4. Dove Beautiful Curls Defining Gel – Can’t Say (Rs. 449)
Will update this when I can find or see their ingredient list.

Confused about What to Choose?

Okay, I get it. This list can also seem overwhelming. Here’s how you choose what to start with-

What is your budget for all the products?

Set a maximum limit at the beginning. And yes, you can have a routine for any budget. If you want more affordable products fit for beginners, check this post- Pocket Friendly Products for Beginners

What is your hair type?

Having a basic idea of what broad texture your hair is can be helpful in narrowing down products and application techniques. Read my detailed guide on this here – Find Your Hair Type

Once you’ve found your hair type…

If you have thin, wavy, or loose curly hair

Start with a shampoo, conditioner, and a gel. If you still see frizz, try lighter products like a leave-in conditioner, spray, or mousse.

Wavy hair doesn’t need multiple products, especially heavy, rich ones. If you want to use a curl cream, go ahead, just reduce the amount.

If you have thick, coarse, curly hair

This hair type needs a stronger conditioning kick than wavy hair. Start with a shampoo, a hair mask, a curl cream, and a gel.

Use a leave-in conditioner instead of a curl cream if you want a lighter after-wash product.

By using my discount codes & Amazon links, I get a tiny commission, which helps support my blog.

I strive to be honest about my product reviews, and I hope you can see that. I find different products suit different requirements, and no product is inherently bad. (If they are, rest assured, I’ll tell you!)

Wrapping Up

The natural hair care space in India seems to be growing rapidly, with new brands launching every other month. I’ll keep adding them to this post, as and when I find one.

FAQ’s

How do you take care of Indian curly hair?

The best product for YOUR hair type will be different from someone else’s. Wavy hair needs lighter products and less conditioning, and curly hair needs richer products.

Your hair’s length also matters; longer hair gets “less curly” because of gravity and, hence, may need lighter products for more bounce).

Even preferences matter—for example, a few years back, I loved definition more than volume. To achieve those results, I loved thicker conditioners and styling creams with more hold.

At my age now, where my hair has thinned out a little more due to hormones and stress, I like lighter products that give me more soft volume and very defined curl clumps.

As a result, there is no one product that is “best for curly hair” – it depends on multiple things.

However, I can tell you what you should look for regardless, which are:

  • gentle cleansing shampoos that don’t strip your scalp and hair of their natural oils
  • hydrating and moisturizing conditioners, and
  • stylers that will smooth down the frizz.

What is best product to make hair curly?

The best product for getting curls is a rich, creamy conditioner with lots of ‘slip’ that can moisturize dry, frizzy, thirsty hair strands.

Apply generously to hair strands and use your fingers to detangle gently, followed by a wide-tooth comb and narrow comb (in that order) or a detangling brush. This distributes the conditioner evenly through your hair strands and smoothes the frizz, resulting in curlier results.

(P.S.’ Slip’ is the ability of a conditioner to detangle knotted hair by making it slippery so the hair can slide against each other and escape the knot.)

How to treat Indian curly hair?

Indian curly hair has to deal with harsher weather conditions, like dry dusty heat, muggy humidity, and dry winters. It also has to deal with high levels of environmental pollution and is often washed with unfiltered water, all of which can impact the products and treatments that will help it thrive.

As a general rule, I encourage my readers in India to regularly clarify and cleanse their scalps, use moisturizing conditioners to tame frizz, and use after-wash products like leave-in conditioners/curl creams/ gels to increase definition and survive the humidity.
