Starting the Indian curly hair routine series has made me so much more mindful of the effect on my hair and how they behave with different product combinations.
In today’s routine, I have used only two brands- Suchi Soaps and Arata Zero Chemicals. to wash and style my hair. (Currently Suchi is no longer in production- June 2020)
Products Used
1. Suchi Hydrating Buttermilk & Rose Shampoo and Conditioner – Rs.800
Now, in my personal experience – I loved how gentle the shampoo was! It did not leave my scalp feeling dry at all and still felt clean.
My hair too was soft even before the conditioner. What I did not like at all was scent once it was applied to the hair and left for a few seconds.
Fragrance preferences are personal and this scent was not to my taste, unfortunately.
The conditioner is lightly creamy & runny and has an earthy scent, along with the rose.
After trying it for the last month, I saw it has decent slip – If I wash my hair every 3 days and my hair isn’t tangled too much, this conditioner works out well.
The times I go without washing my hair for 5-6 days (yeah I get super lazy lol), I’ve found I need a product with more slip than this to detangle without breakage.
2. Arata Zero Chemicals Hair Cream (Rs.599) & Arata Zero Chemicals Hair Gel (Rs.599)
I got these products last evening only 🤣! My excited ass couldn’t wait – I tried them out today morning. I was also about to skip wash day again because I was feeling lazy. I washed my curls only to start testing these two products out.
Now the hair cream – it’s soft and creamy. Note, these are first impressions. My full review is here.
It moisturized my hair strands well and gave me big clumps!
The hair gel is light- medium hold and works like a store bought version of DIY Flaxseed gel with a nicer scent.

Steps in my Curly Hair Routine
- I had oiled my hair last night so I used a big amount of Suchi shampoo to apply on my scalp and on the length of my hair.
- Rinsed it out and separated my hair into 2 sections.
- Applied a generous pump of Suchi conditioner to each section.
- Finger detangled and used a wide toothed comb and narrow comb to remove tiny knots.
- Rinsed it out and squeezed out excess water.
- Smoothed on Arata Hair Cream to 2 sections of hair and finger combed.
- Similarly, smoothed on Arata hair gel and then used my Denman brush to define my curls.
Note- Try plain Scrunching if you don’t wan’t to break the curl clumps with the brush. If you want to watch how I style my curls, watch my video tutorial here. - Diffused my curls to get mega volume! Watch the video below to see how you should diffuse curly hair.
- I SOTC’d (Scrunch out the crunch) with Innis Free Camellia Head Massage Oil
Results
So I hope you can see that the hair cream and gel did moisturize my hair and gave them light definition.
I usually prefer more hold but I have a feeling it will suit me more when I do Squish to Condish + Super Soaker method, which I will try next. I
will also next time, use more hair gel and I will NOT comb after that step unlike today. Just to see the difference.
This brings me to an important point – before you complain about a product or write it off- are you changing the amount each time you try?
Do you try different styling techniques? Have you tried changing the product cocktail?
Everyone’s hair is different. Hence it’s important to try small tweaks and learn how to best use it instead of feeling discouraged in one go. 🙂
So, now it’s YOUR turn. Have you tried any of these products before? Is there any product you want me to remember to review? Let me know in the comments below! Join me on Instagram for more tips and to stay updated for the next post!

atHi Pallavi, how do you store the DIY flaxseed gel? How long can you use it? Or every time you have to make new one?
Pallavi Juneja
atKeep it in a jar in the fridge, max 3 weeks I think. If it smells funky, throw it out. 🙂 I know someone who makes a big batch and then freezes it in cubes in the freezer. When she wants, she thaws and uses that!

atHey Pallavi. You recommended this exact same routine for me in January. I have been following it rigorously since then. I stay in Bombay and my problem is dry and frizzy hair and my curl pattern is lost. I oil my hair regularly and wash it every 4 days. I don’t know what it is wrong but the volume of my hair is now half of what it was earlier. My hair has become thin and it’s almost like non existent. Please help me. I read negative reviews about the Wow shampoo and they all faced exreme hairfall issues. Please reply asap.
